Ezenwa Stars In Enyimba’s 0-0 Draw At Wikki

Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa was impressive in helping Enyimba claim a point at Wikki Tourists in Sunday’s match that finished scoreless in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Enyimba held Wikki at bay in a largely lacklustre affair that petered out in the second period, with neither side doing enough to grab the maximum points.

Paul Aigbogun made a number of changes to the side that drew, also goalless, against Bidvest Wits in the CAF Confederation Cup in midweek. Ernest Governor was on from the start, and Ezenwa returned to the team after a brief spell out through injury, meaning Ghanaian goalkeeper Fatau Dauda who has featured in most of the games in all competitions got a place on the bench.

Wikki’s startlist had a strong field of experienced campaigners in Nafiu Kabuga, Shammah Tanze, Bala Zakka, Peter Ambrose, Abdullahi Musa and goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius.

The hosts started the brighter, and set the tone for the rest of the encounter, seeing more of the ball and seeking to take the game to the two-time African champions.

Samuel Kalu drew a fine save from Ezenwa, as his free kick arrowed toward the top corner. Tanze then went through on goal after some miscommunication in the Enyimba backline, but was unable to outwit Ezenwa, who was mammoth coming off his line.

Tanze would get two more opportunities, notably firing into the side-netting after the break. The hosts then saw two chances from corner kicks denied, as first the impassable Ezenwa pulled off a reflex stop in the midst of a goalmouth scramble, and then Andrew Abalogu headed off the line from Musa Abdullahi’s powerful header.
