Barring a last minute change of mind Sirius of Sweden forward Henry Offia will lead the line for Nigeria at the U20 World Youth Championship in Poland when the tournament begin on Saturday, Sports&study.org reports.
Offia was added to the squad to boost the attack of the team which was one of the problems that made them finish 4th at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations and so far he looks like an upgrade on the strikers who were at the U20 Cup of Nations.
However he wasn’t handed the spot on a platter as he still had to fend off competition from the trio of Jerome Akor, Emeka Chinonso and Jamilu Mohammed who were also gunning for same spot.
The Nigerian team will most likely play same 4-3-3 formation that they played at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations and if that is the case then Offia will lead the line but if coach Paul Aigbogun decide to play the 4-4-2 formation then he will pair Akor in attack.
” Offia snatched the spot with his performances in the three friendly games played by the team. He scored in all of our warm up games and that gave him an edge over the rest strikers in the team. The idea is to play players base on how we want to play but Offia is our first choice striker “, an official of the team told Sports&study.org.
