Nigeria: Mikel Reckons Eagles Have Good Passers of the Ball

Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel said the national team has creative players that can do well, heading to the 2018 FIFA 2018 World Cup.

He said the philosophy of the team is well understood by the players and coupled with their discipline, the Eagles will not disappoint in the group stages where they face Croatia, Iceland and Argentina.

“This team is one team that really like to play football. We have Victor Moses, we have Kelechi Iheanacho, we have Alex Iwobi, we have Ndidi, we have Onazi, we have Etebo,” Mikel stated.

“These players all like to have the ball and it is important for us, we like to play a passing game.’

“There is a lot of discipline, calmness in the team. Everybody does his job, everybody knows what to do, everybody knows you can’t let the team down.”

Meanwhile coach Gernot Rohr has explained why majority of the players he intends to name to his World Cup roster are categorised as young players. “We chose young players, we wanted to build a new team and I see now that we are the youngest squad of the World Cup. Nigeria already have a good team spirit with players, so the level is very high,” said Rohr to FIFA World Cup Russia Magazine.

“To be better than them, it will not be easy for our young players.”
