Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez remains keen on joining Arsenal and even wanted a move to Arsene Wenger’s side last summer, according to reports.
The Algeria international is on Wenger’s shortlist but it’s understood that the Arsenal manager is prioritising a move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar instead.
Leicester are holding out for a £50 million fee for the 26-year-old and Roma are the only club so far who have made an offer of around £30m, which has been rejected.
‘Mahrez’s problem is he has talked about a move to Arsenal for two summers now but on both occasions he has had three years remaining on his contract,’ a source at Leicester told The Sun.
‘Therefore he is in no position to dictate the next move or call the shots – all the power lies with the club.’
The Sun also claims that Wenger had the chance to sign Mahrez for £35m last year but didn’t make an offer.
At the weekend, reports claims that Mahrez is ‘determined’ to join Arsenal this summer and will reject the chance to join Roma.
Mahrez is currently in pre-season training with Leicester and Wes Morgan insists the midfielder remains committed to the club.
‘Everyone knows about Riyad Mahrez. We’ve seen what a difference he can make. He’s got the key to unlock defences,’ Moragn told the Leicester Mercury.
