Alvaro Morata, Man United & Chelsea
The Daily Express know how to draw eyeballs.
Whether they know how to produce accurate transfer rumours, however, is a separate matter altogether.
Man United versus Chelsea has quickly become of the main storylines of the summer.
United took a 1-0 lead over the Premier League champs signing Romelu Lukaku, while Jose Mourinho could put United 2-up by snaring Tiemoue Bakayoko from under Antonio Conte’s nose.
And it gets worse for Chelsea amid fresh claims United could make it 3-nil by signing Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid as well.
What’s the story?
After the Lukaku deal first broke, one of the narratives which spread like wildfire is that the deal with Everton signalled Man United’s interest in signing Morata was over.
But the Express try to resuscitate the transfer rumour on Tuesday, in an apparent attempt to cause Chelsea fans to meltdown. Readers are told:
Man United could still sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata despite splashing out £75million on Romelu Lukaku.
It is said that Mourinho wants another hitman as they look to build an exciting new era without Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Wayne Rooney in their ranks.
You’d have to wonder what Marcus Rashford would be thinking if a deal for Morata happened.
That said, the smart money is that Morata won’t be joining the Red Devils this summer. Instead the Star report on Tuesday that Chelsea have officially tabled a £62m bid for Morata with Los Blancos.
