Why Moses Simon would benefit from choosing Newcastle over Liverpool

Expect to hear a lot more about Moses Simon this summer. The 22-year-old winger is one of Nigeria’s big hopes as the Super Eagles aim to navigate a tricky World Cup group containing Croatia, Iceland and Argentina but the Gent star could have a new club by then, too.

Because it is understood that Liverpool are also very interested in a player who could provide a test of Mike Ashley’s ambition due to his £13 million price-tag.

But if it is regular first-team football Simon is after, there is surely only one club for him. Newcastle may not be in the Champions League or fighting for titles, but they could offer the 17-time international the chance to establish himself in England.

For the most part, the Magpies have lacked creativity, speed and cutting edge this season and Simon would be a welcome addition, particularly with Kenedy expected to return to parent club Chelsea. Blessed with attributes Newcastle are largely lacking, the Nigerian could be one of the most important players in Rafa Benitez’s squad.

The same could not be said about Liverpool, however. After all, finding a way past the ‘fab three’ of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, not to mention Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana, would be difficult for a proven, experienced attacker, not only a little known winger from the Belgian league.
