Bidvest Wits are in solid form heading into Friday’s CAF Confederations Cup first leg, play-off tie with Enyimba, although the Nigerian club say they are full of confidence.
With a place in the group stages at stake over two legs, the People’s Elephant claim to have all the ingredients to beat the Clever Boys at the BidVest Stadium.
Gavin Hunt’s side dropped into the competition after being eliminated in the CAF Champions League by Primeiro de Agosto in the qualifying rounds.
Meanwhile, Enyimba advanced to this stage after defeating Benin outfit Energie FC 5-2 on aggregate.
Technical team member Usman Abdullah said in a club statement: “We have called up 18 in-form players that will know will give us what we want in SA.
“We won’t joke with the prospect of qualifying for the group stage which is staring us in the face if we beat Bidvest to the ticket.”
The two-time Champions League winners departed for Mzansi on Wednesday and are set to conduct their first training session in Jo’burg on Thursday evening.
Wits are also showing improved form after a poor start to the domestic Premiership season. A recent 2-1 victory over high-flying Maritzburg United saw them move into the top eight for the first time this season.
