The race to unseat Enugu Rangers at this year’s edition of the competition will commence this weekend with ties among the lower league teams
The playoff round of the 2019 Federation Cup competition will kick off on Friday with lower league teams engaging in the battle to see who will scale through to the Round of 64.
Beaten finalists in the Imo FA Cup, Heartland Comets will trade tackles with their Enugu counterparts, Star Plus while Akwa United representatives, Cofine FC have a date with Ben Ayade FC.
Kaduna side, Green Berets who lost 2-1 to Ambassadors in the final of State FA Cup, will seek a place in the Round of 64 when they face Suleiman Boys from Jigawa State while FC DE Leo of Edo State have a tie with Abaye FC of Bayelsa State.
10 teams will qualify from the preliminary round to the first round from where the remaining teams, including topflight teams, will be recalled to start the real process.
Even before the commencement of the competition at national level, some high profile clubs have been eliminated in their states with Heartland, FC IfeanyiUbah and MFM, among those that were upset and won’t feature this term.
