A Tougher Year For Madrid

There’s no such thing as an ‘easy year’ at Real Madrid but Zinedine Zidane is expecting an especially tough year, well, season ahead but the boss has been pleased with the opening week of pre-season training at UCLA.
It isn’t a holiday in Los Angeles, the Real players are in America to work hard in preparation for the campaign ahead with Zidane telling realmadrid.com the first week has gone really well but stressed how important the three week stay in the USA was to Los Blancos’ season.

‘We’re here to work hard. The players are working very hard and are doing really well. I’m happy how the first week has gone and we now have to keep it up.’

Adding: ‘Pre-season is important as it allows us to work on the areas we want to. We have to work hard and that’s what we’re here to do. Our three-week stay here is very important for the rest of the season.’

Like I’ve side there isn’t an easy year at Real. The demands for success are always high at the Santiago Bernabeu and the pressures of the season before, especially if it was successful like the last one was, will make it an even more demanding campaign.

Zidane knows Real will be under pressure to defend La Liga and go for a third successive Champions League triumph but Zizou is also keen for the club to enjoy and embrace this challenge.

‘It’s going to tougher than ever, but we’re preparing ourselves for that. We want to continue to work hard and the players are aware of what lies ahead. This year is going to be tougher, but at the same time that’s just how we like it. We enjoy the challenge of getting on with our work and winning things again come the end of the season.’

As always, playing down his own importance and the part he plays, Zidane said the players are the ‘most important ones’ as Real aim to, albeit a season that’ll be ‘tougher than ever’, have a good one.

‘They’re the most important ones in all this. As I always say, and this will never change, it’s important that they’re excited, work hard and show dedication. I’m lucky enough to be here and I’m going to make the most of every minute and every day. I’m fortunate to be at this great club. We’re going to try and have a good season.’
