Arsenal leaving it late
Arsenal are hoping to bring in at least one more player before the close of the window.
Arsene Wenger is hoping to free up cash with a number of outgoings expected.
The futures of Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs, Lucas Perez, Joel Campbell are still unknown.
Of course, there’s still the situation with Alexis Sanchez, who seems as close as ever to leaving the Emirates.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is another expected to leave shortly, having agreed terms with Chelsea.
Wenger has already ruled out signing Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, who is now linked with a move to Liverpool.
Shkodran Mustafi is one of the Arsenal players expected to leave, albeit on loan.
With Gabriel Paulista having also left, Arsenal could be short on numbers at the back.
Amid the fake reports that Arsenal are in for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, Gooners will probably be underwhelmed with their actual target, Jonny Evans.
Although not a marquee signing, Evans has impressed at West Brom over the years since joining from Manchester United.
The Telegraph claim that Manchester City are also interested in the 29-year-old.
Leicester had a £21m bid for Evans rejected by the Baggies earlier in the week, while City have already had two rejected.
The report says a third bid from City of up to £30m is incoming as Arsenal enter the race.
With so many clubs interested, this one could definitely drag out until very late on deadline day.
