Aston Villa are through to the Championship playoff final after beating West Brom 4-3 on penalties in the semi-final, second leg at The Hawthorns on Tuesday evening.
Craig Dawson’s 29th minute effort took the aggregate score to 2-2 and both teams could not be separated at the end of regular and extra-time.
Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham’s injury problems are behind him and the England U21 star retained his place in the starting line-up, while Manchester City-owned defender Tosin Adarabioyo was introduced off the bench in the 82nd minute.
Adarabioyo was the first Baggies player to convert from the spot in the in the penalty shoot-out, after Holgate and Ahmed Hegazi’s spot kicks were saved by goalkeeper Jed Steer.
With both teams tied at 3-3, Abraham scored the winning penalty to knockout West Brom and send Aston Villa into the Championship playoff final at Wembley on Monday, May 27.
The Championship playoff final is considered the richest game in football and last year’s winner Fulham pocketed at least 160 million pounds from prize money and broadcast deals.
