This free transfer rumour doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Eagles
Having had a disappointing deadline day, named just 24-men in the Premier League squad and nowreleased a player to free up space, Crystal Palace are linked with a number of free trnsfers.
But the latest name linked doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense.
The Eagles are, according to various reports, interested in signing former Arsenal and Manchester City right-back Bacary Sagna.
In fact, Palace have been linked with a move for the 34-year-old former France international, who is now a free agent having been released by the Citizens earlier in the year, for most of the summer.
But wasting a precious squad place on a right-back just wouldn’t make sense for Palace.
They are desperate for a new striker, having failed to sign any on deadline day, leaving just Christian Benteke as the club’s only fit recognised first-team forward.
And in goal they have just two first-team options in Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni, and could do with backup there.
Right-back is actually a position the Eagles are well-stocked in with loanee Tim Fosu-Mensah first choice there and Joel Ward and Martin Kelly more than adequate backup.
Sagna has spent the last decade of his career in England having moved to the Gunners from Auxerre in 2007, and has won the FA Cup and League cup with Arsenal and City respectively.
Meanwhile, Palace boss Frank de Boer is under pressure having lost his opening three league games, with some resports suggesting he will be sacked if the Eagles lose at Burnley on SU
