David de Gea was greeted by Real Madrid players after shoot-out – but Man United fans are feeling optimistic

The Spanish keeper could be seen talking to his international teammates after Man United’s penalty shoot-out victory

Manchester United beat Real Madrid 2-1 on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

Jesse Lingard put the Red Devils ahead in the first half, making the most of some brilliant wing play courtesy of Anthony Martial.

But Los Blancos hit back from the spot when United’s new boy Victor Lindelof upended Real’s new boy Theo Hernandez, allowing Casemiro to convert.

The game concluded with a poor penalty shoot-out in which just three of the ten penalties taken by both sides were scored.

United came out on top winning 2-1, which understandably sparked excitement among the watching Red Devils supporters.

But then something else happened immediately after to get tongues wagging.

As the above picture, courtesy of Manchester United editor for the Manchester Evening News, Samuel Luckhurst, shows, de Gea was surrounded by three Real players.

They appear to be deep in conversation with their Spain teammate, but as the United shot-stopper has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu for a while now, some people have been questioning what was said.

Now normally in these situations fans start panicking and fear the worst.

But on this occasion the United supporters are feeling more than a little bit optimistic about the whole thing – in fact, they think this whole conversation could be working to THEIR advantage…
