Elvedi and Doucouré rejoin training

Nico Elvedi and Mamadou Doucouré rejoined the squad in training on their third day in Rottach-Egern and completed all parts of the morning session.

There was some good news for head coach Dieter Hecking on the team’s third day in Rottach-Egern. Nico Elvedi and Mamadou Doucouré completed the full training session with the rest of the team at their training camp. The two had withdrawn from yesterday’s sessions prematurely after picking up a minor niggle. “I’m glad that I can join in everything again. I haven’t got any pain and I feel good,” said Elvedi afterwards.

Eleven a-side

The session, which lasted almost two hours, was focused on preparing for their two friendlies on Thursday. Hecking got the boys doing some passing exercises before moving into an eleven a-side game. Hecking was on hand to give the players tactical instructions and motivation.

The Fohlenelf take on Leeds United tomorrow at 14:15 CEST before then facing OGC Nice at 18:00 CEST, where they will come up against former VfL coach Lucien Favre. “We want to give all the players a chance to play a lot of football against two very good teams. We will be fielding two different elevens so that everyone has to deal with the same burden,” explained assistant coach Dirk Bremser, who expects the tactics to vary a lot during the match as the boys have been working on in training. It will certainly be a test of Nice’s stamina against the Fohlenelf as they prepare themselves for their first Champions League play-off against Ajax next week.

Feigenspan and Rütten travel

Striker Mike Feigenspan and midfielder Nils Rütten will also be alternative options in both friendlies. Midfielder Tsiy William Ndenge meanwhile has not travelled with the taem to their training camp. He has been with Dutch first division side Roda JC Kerkrade as he completes a trial at their training camp. He is expected to join the club on a year-long loajn deal.
