PAOK Salonika of Greece forward Chuba Akpom could lead the line for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their next round of international games against Seychelles and Egypt respectively, coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr has hinted.
Nigeria will take on Seychelles in a dead rubber AFCON 2019 Qualifiers before playing Egypt three days later in an international friendly game as part of their preparations for the Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Egypt.
Rohr has revealed he intends to use fringe players for the game against Seychelles with some players who are yet to be called up also under consideration for a maiden call up due to the fact that the game is meaningless in terms of qualifying for the AFCON as Nigeria are already through.
Akpom has played his way into the thinking of the Franco-German coach with his recent run in front of goal for PAOK and the coach admitted that he is well under consideration to be called up as one of the options in attack.
” Every good player doing well for their clubs will be given the chance to play for Nigeria. We know Akpom very well and his form has been impressive for PAOK in Greece. We are monitoring him just like other players who are doing well”, the coach told sports&study.org when asked if the 23 year old has done enough to be called up.
