Nigeria U20 team will not be taking on their Saudi Arabia counterparts in a friendly game earlier planned to prepare both teams for their campaign at the World Youth Championship in Poland later this year, Sports&study.org understands.
The Nigerian team were expected to depart the shores of Nigeria on the 1st of April for the friendly game that was moved to after the U20 Africa Cup of Nations but the game has been cancelled according to team sources.
In a bid to keep the players fit and ready for the World Youth Championship, the technical crew have now settled for friendly games with local sides while hoping on a planned training tour of Germany.
” We are not playing Saudi Arabia anymore. Our emphasis is now on our planned trip to Germany for a training tour. The team need to play quality friendly games before the World Youth Championship and the tour will help us in that regard “, a team source told Sports&study.org.
” Coach Paul Aigbogun is seriously pushing for the camp to work because it will afford him the chance to see some of the players in contention to make the team in a competitive game. Training is not enough most times”, he concluded.
