Football Foundation Year, UK

Hoping to study under some of the UK’s leading football academics? This one-year football foundation course will help prepare you to undertake a specialised football degree here at the University. You’ll spend the year working on fundamental academic research skills and begin to build a broad knowledge of the academic theories that relate to football studies.

This foundation year, which is the only one of its kind in the UK, supplements the University’s portfolio of football related honours degrees. With over ten years of successful delivery, this course will provide you with the appropriate skills, knowledge and academic literacy required to progress onto either:

• BA (Hons) Football Studies, or
• BA (Hons) Football Business Management.

What does this course lead to?

The skills that you develop on this course will prepare you for degree-level study at the University, while the introduction to football will give you a strong base for any higher-level studies in football you may pursue in the future.

Who is this course for?

This foundation year is ideally suited to students who are interested in studying one of our specialised football degrees but don’t quite meet the entry requirements. Graduates of this programme can progress directly into year one of a relevant degree.Students who have been out of education for a while may also benefit from the gentler introduction that this foundation year can provide.

Fees and costs

Tuition fees
The 2019/20 fees are not yet available. For guidance, the 2018/19 fees were:
UK and EU full-time fees: £9,250 per year
International full-time fees: £11,000 per year

Other costs
While most course costs are covered by your tuition fees, some essential resources and optional extras may need to be paid for separately. The 2019/20 other costs are not yet available. For guidance the 2018/19 costs were:

Graduation costs
Graduation is the ceremony to celebrate the achievements of your studies. For graduates in 2018, there is no charge to attend graduation, but you will be required to pay for the rental of your academic gown (approximately £45 per graduate, depending on your award). You may also wish to purchase official photography packages, which range in price from £15 to £200+. Graduation is not compulsory, so if you prefer to have your award sent to you, there is no cost.

Key entry requirements
English language requirements
Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are:
• IELTS 5.5 overall with a minimum of 5.0 in each individual component
• TOEFL IBT 71 with a minimum of 19 in in each individual component- TOEFL is only valid for EU students
• or equivalent.
Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University.
