Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer is convinced Christian Benteke will stay at Selhurst Park amid speculation linking him to Premier League rivals.
Benteke has been most consistently reported as a possible replacement for Romelu Lukaku at Everton after the striker’s switch to Manchester United whilst Chelsea have also monitored the Palace striker.
But Palace’s record signing could not be easily replaced after he weighed in with 15 Premier League goals last season and De Boer is convinced that Benteke is happy at the club.
“He’s happy here and we really want him to stay,” said the Eagles boss. “He made a great impact last season, especially in the second half of the season, and he is crucial to us and we don’t want to sell him.”
Palace are set to complete their second signing of the transfer window in the coming days, with Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald set to join Chelsea loanee Ruben Loftus-Cheek in Hong Kong as the club compete in the Premier League trophy, where they will face Liverpool tomorrow.
De Boer wants to see Palace apply the lessons he has tried to drill into them since replacing Sam Allardyce last month across the pre-season friendlies.
“We talk almost every day about what we expect from everybody individually and what their roles are attacking-wise and defensively, and the squad understand what I want,” he said.
“We are not in a position like the big clubs, we have to work really hard as a team and if we do that and the eagerness to work together then I think we can make it difficult for every club.”
