Good news for Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas

Improved role

Cesc Fabregas triumphed over adversity last season with Chelsea. Unwanted by new coach Antonio Conte, Fabregas persevered and eventually proved his worth to the Italian manager. Now he’ll be rewarded for that.

The Evening Standard reports that Conte has held a meeting with Fabregas to assure him that he will have a greater role within the team next season. Conte looks back on leaving out the Spain international with regret.

Despite a lack of minutes, Fabregas managed to score seven goals and create 13 assists in all competitions.

Both AC Milan and West Ham were linked with moves for the 30-year-old but his future is in London.

Midfielder shortage

Chelsea are running low on senior players with stars like Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic still set to leave. The Blues look like they’ll be incorporating a lot more youngsters into the squad this season. One player who won’t play a role is Nathaniel Chalobah, the midfielder moving to Watford, much to the chagrin of Ray Wilkins.
