Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he does not enjoy pre-season ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Watford on Saturday.
The German is often volatile but admits he is even more agitated during the long build-up to the new campaign.
Liverpool travel to Vicarage Road having beaten the home side there just three months ago and Klopp is delighted that the season is about to begin.
‘I’m excited. I’ve been looking forward to the first game since we started pre-season,’ he said.
‘I’m not the best in pre-season – I’m not very patient. I’m happy that we can start.’
Despite losing just seven games at home last season, Watford concluded the season with five straight home defeats.
However, Klopp says his team still need to prepare in the right way to claim the three points.
‘We’ll have an exact look at what Watford will ask of us system-wise and things like this; preparation and preparation.’
Despite being defeated by Atletico Madrid on penalties in the Audi Cup final last week, Klopp’s team are in good form having beaten Athletic Bilbao 3-1 in their final pre-season friendly.
However, Liverpool are without Adam Lallana for the Premier League opener due to a thigh injury sustained against Atletico Madrid at the Allianz Arena last Wednesday, but Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson are both likely to return for the league opener.
