Manchester United and Manchester City will go head-to-head for Premier League title this season, Red Devils legend Ryan Giggs tells talkSPORT

Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho – who will take home the Premier League title this season?

Ryan Giggs has told talkSPORT the Premier League title will be a two-horse race between Manchester United and Manchester City this season.

Both clubs have been busy in the summer transfer window already as they look to improve on two largely disappointing domestic campaigns.

United may have enjoyed silverware success in the League Cup and Europa League, but both triumphs merely paved over the cracks of their seventh place finish in the league table.

Meanwhile, City failed to live up to their ‘title favourites’ tag in Pep Guardiola’s first season in charge, and ended up 15 points adrift of champions Chelsea in third place.

But the crosstown rivals have strengthened their squads this summer – City so far spending more than £100million on playmaker Bernardo Silva, defender Kyle Walker and goalkeeper Ederson Moraes, while United have landed striker Romelu Lukaku, centre-back Victor Lindelof and are set to sign winger Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.

More arrivals are expected at both clubs before the end of the transfer window, and Giggs is sure the title will end up in Manchester come next May.

Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, the United legend said: “I can see United and City definitely contending for the league.

“It’s Jose’s second season with United. Last season they had the best squad and I think this year they’ve got the best squad again.

“They haven’t necessarily got the best XI, but their strength in depth is huge.

“And City; towards the end of the season away at Watford they had Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero, David SilvaKevin De Bruyne.

“That front five is scary…and Raheem Sterling wasn’t even on the pitch!

“It’s Guardiola’s second season in the Premier League, too, so they will be really strong.

“It’ll be interesting to see how Chelsea cope with the Champions League, but I can definitely see United and City contending for the title.”
