Arsenal should not meet Mesut Ozil’s sky-high demands, according to former player Stewart Robson.
The German playmaker is out of contract in 2018 and, though he insists he wants to stay, is reportedly asking for up to £400,000-a-week to sign a new deal.
But Robson insists the World Cup winner is not worth such a big salary and Arsenal would be ‘silly to pay it’.
Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Robson said: “As we have seen with Ozil over the last three years, he can do some great things but in some of the big games he has gone missing.
“He is not dynamic enough at times and when Arsenal aren’t playing well, tactically he is a passenger.
“You can’t pay somebody £400,000-a-week and him be a passenger every third week. That is not good enough from a top player and that is why other clubs like the Real Madrid, who he was at before, and Bayern Munich haven’t taken him back.”
