Nemanja Vidic says compatriot Nemanja Matic brought a title-winning mentality with him when he swapped Chelsea for Manchester United.
Vidic won five Premier League titles during an eight-year spell at Old Trafford, but the club have not won the League crown since his last triumph in 2013.
Jose Mourinho has spent the summer bolstering his squad in a bid to end the club’s five-year wait for the title, and Matic’s £40million arrival from Chelsea has helped them make a perfect start.
United are the only team to have won each of their first three games and Matic has brought a new steel to the midfield which has helped them keep clean sheets in each match.
“There are not so many players left at Old Trafford who have won the title before, so that trophy-winning mentality is very important because it can’t only come from a very successful manager,” said Vidic in United Review.
“Nemanja has been there before and he knows what it’s like when the pressure really builds in a title race.
“He’s a very good signing for us. He’s a top player for the position and I’m surprised that Antonio Conte let him go. He played most of their games last season and did really well, so I didn’t expect him to be sold to one of their biggest rivals. The way he’s played in his first few games suggests he is a United player.”
