Barcelona star Neymar has described teammate Lionel Messi as “magical” amid growing speculation over his future at the Camp Nou.
The 24-year-old Brazilian international, who’s strongly been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, has to date enjoyed four seasons alongside the five-time Ballon d’Or recipient.
Neymar, a long-time admirer of the Argentine playmaker, attributes his influence as making him a better footballer but found it hard to put into words how good he is.
“You can’t really say what makes Messi the best in the world,” he told Goal.
“He’s simply exceptional, quick, intelligent, a great finisher, can dribble like no other with speed or in short spaces. It’s just magical!
“He’s also very generous, he doesn’t have that “wanting to be the best” aspect, that must-score attitude. He also presents you with opportunities to shine as well. Living with Messi has made me a better professional.
“To watch him training, on the dressing room, how serious he is facing every challenge helped me grow up. I’m lucky to have him as a friend, as an idol!”
Neymar’s current deal, which he signed last July, expires in 2021 but there are strong reports he might not honour the agreement.
PSG, who attempted to bring him to Paris last summer, are reportedly keen to activate his €222 million release clause.
Time will tell whether they manage to succeed, but acquiring him will be a coup for the French powerhouse, considering what he’s already achieved in European football.
Since joining the Catalan powerhouse from boyhood club Santos in 2013 he’s been an instrumental presence in their recent successes including winning a second historic treble in 2015.
Neymar has featured across 186 matches in all competitions scoring 105 goals and creating a further 80.
