Coach Paul Aigbogun of the Nigeria U20 team says he will not give up on his plan to convince England youth international duo of Folarin Balogun and Xavier Amaechi to switch allegiance to Nigeria.
The duo are eligible to play for Nigeria as they have Nigerian descent and Aigbogun views them as part of the players who will add strength and depth to his squad for the upcoming World Youth Championship in Poland.
Folarin who is top scorer for Arsenal at youth level this season has shown interest in switching allegiance to Nigeria but Amaechi is yet to openly comment on the chances of playing for Nigeria.
” When I was in London, I watched them in a game for the youth team of Arsenal and they made a good impression on me. I really will like to have them in my team but these things can be complicated at times because some of these boys have strong connection to the country of their birth”, Aigbogun told Sports&study.org.
” Folarin has 22 goals and four assists for Arsenal at youth level and plays for the U18s of England while Amaechi who also plays for England U18 has four goals and five assists in 12 games for Arsenal youth team. You can’t give up on such potential particularly if they are interested in playing for Nigeria “.
