Arsenal transfer news sees Olivier Giroud linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer
Olivier Giroud has been left on the bench as Arsenal take on Bayern Munich today in Shanghai – fuelling speculation of a potential move away.
The Gunners striker has been at the centre of lots of speculation this summer, with several clubs being linked with a move for the France international.
Arsene Wenger continues to insist he wants the striker to stay, but Giroud himself told Football.London that he was considering leaving the Emirates after five years to guarantee first-team football ahead of next year’s World Cup.
“It is to be honest with you,” the Gunners striker replied when asked if leaving was an option this summer.
“But because there is nothing (confirmed) yet I am here for pre-season. I wanted to travel.
“Some people asked me if I was going to travel or not, I said of course I’m an Arsenal player.
“I just want to prepare well for the season and we’ll see later. One thing is for sure is I really enjoyed my five years at Arsenal.”
Giroud played both games during Arsenal’s stay in Australia, scoring in the second as Western Sydney Wanderers were beaten 3-1.
Speaking after that match, Wenger reiterated his desire to keep the forward in north London.
“I’ve said many times I’ve huge respect for Olivier Giroud, for the man he is, the way he loves our club.
“Even with all the speculation he’s focused, he does his job.
Everton have been heavily linked with Giroud, who has taken a full part in training during the past two days since the Gunners arrived in Shanghai.
West Ham are also interested, while the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Marseille are also keeping tabs on the frontman’s situation.
