Paul Onuachu goal for Nigeria in the opening eight seconds of their 1-0 friendly win against Egypt didn’t happen by chance according to coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.
Onuachu fired home a long ball from John Ogu straight from kick off for what ended as the lone goal and also the decider in the keenly contested friendly game played in Asaba on Tuesday.
Many were quick to praise the instinct of the FC Midtjylland forward judging by the way he took his chance very early into the game, which was his first start for Nigeria following his debut against Seychelles on Friday in the 3-1 win over Seychelles in a dead rubber AFCON 2019 Qualifiers tie.
Some praised the vision of Ogu who supplied the pass from kick off but according to Rohr, it was a routine that was rehearsed in training before the game hence the execution on the pitch didn’t come to him as a surprise.
“We now have a different type of striker, a tall one from Denmark. He did very well (vs Egypt), but he has to still improve. We planned to score right from the kick-off,” Rohr revealed.
“It was the quickest goal I ever saw as a coach. It was very nice.”
