Super Falcons star players at the 11th African Women Cup of Nations, Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie and Ngozi Okobi have missed the competition’s all-star best 11 squad roster, as footballlive.ng reports that only two members of the winning team are listed.
Although Nigeria eventually won the African continental showpiece for the ninth time out of 11 editions, CAF’s technical study group rightfully adjudged that none of the players was as astounding as had been expected before kick-off at Ghana 2018.
Dramatically, current African women player of the year, Oshoala managed only three goals in a single match, then missed a penalty during regulation time in the final, while 2016 top scorer, Oparanozie was ruled out of the last game due to injury.
While ace midfielder, Okobi and her battling partner, Halimat Ayinde also both missed the all-stars’ cut, Falcons’ goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi, who posted four clean sheets in five ties is selected in the AWCON 2018 best eleven, alongside Onome Ebi, in central defense.
However, Oshoala, who managed to score in only one game during the competition, has been ignored in the best XI, the China-based former Liverpool and Arsenal striker is the AWCON 2018 all-stars’ substitute’s list with USA-based Francisa Ordega.
The AWCON 2018 technical study group also selected South Africa’s Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana as Woman of the Competition and top scorer for the Golden Boot award.
The CAF Best XI has Goalkeeper: Tochukwu Oluehi (Nigeria); Defenders: Lebohang Ramalepe (South Africa), Janine Van Wyk (South Africa), Onome Ebi (Nigeria), Claudine Meffometou Tcheno (Cameroon); Midfielders: Raissa Feudjio (Cameroon), Marlyse Ngo Ndoumbouk (Cameroon), Elizabeth Addo (Ghana), Forwards: Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene (Cameroon), Chrestinah Thembi Kgatlana (South Africa), Bassira Toure (Mali).
