Paulinho insists the only way he can change people’s opinions of his qualities are by his performances on the pitch.
The Blaugrana’s signing of the Brazilian international from Guangzhou Evergrande for €40m has come under heavy scrutiny from a number of the club’s fans.
“The only thing I can do is play well and to change people’s opinion of me,” Paulinho told an interview with Diario Sport.
“The only way I can respond is to help my teammates on the pitch, achieving victories and titles – I have to be mature and not let criticism damage me.
“An understanding with Messi? I have to look at how he plays and try to adapt my game to suit him because he can become the best player in the world again and help propel us to titles.”
The 28-year-old scored 10 goals in 67 appearances for Spurs between 2013 and 2015, before being sold to Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande, where he won five trophies and regained his place in the Brazilian national team.
