Signing on at Real Madrid
It’s been a busy few weeks of important internal business at Real Madrid.
The reigning Champions League and La Liga holders have been signing up a group of stars as they approached the end of their contracts.
Dani Carvajal became the third Real Madrid superstar to sign a huge new contract this week until 2022.
Previously, Spanish international star Isco and brilliant Brazilian left-back Marcelo also agreed new Los Blancos deals until 2022.
Barcelona & Neymar
Aside from wanting to keep their players committed to Madrid, Real seem to have learned from Barcelona’s experience of losing Neymar to PSG this summer.
As we now know, Barcelona never thought Neymar would leave the Camp Nou in the summer.
However, PSG made the deal happen by meeting the Brazilian’s 222 million euro release clause.
Looking to head off similar problems, the likes of Carvajal, Isco and Marcelo have all agreed to enormous buyout clauses in their new deals.
Carvajal’s is 350 million euros, Marcelo is 200 million, and Isco is a staggering 700 million.
Real Madrid v Barcelona
Spanish paper Sport have now looked into the buyout clauses in the Barcelona and Real Madrid squads.
The starkest takeaway is that Barcelona are far more vulnerable to vultures. The Catalans squad is available for less than half of what Madrid’s costs.
Ousmane Dembele has the highest Barca release clause at 400 million. Leo Messi, who has yet to agree his new contract, can be bought for 250 million.
Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez have 200 million euro release clauses.
As for Madrid’s stars, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale both have one billion euros exit clauses.
Toni Kroos is available for a cool 500 million euros.
