Former Super Eagles defender Mobi Oparaku says the Franco-German coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr need to do more in terms of inviting players who will battle the regular players for spots in his team, Sports&study.org reports.
Reacting to the 25 man provisional list of the Super Eagles, the Atalanta 96 Olympic gold medallist said the list contains same players the coach has remained loyal to since he took over as coach.
Oparaku said his unwillingness to try other players bar the regulars in his team has made some of the players complacent as they know that even if they don’t play at their club side they will still be invited to the team.
” The names on the list is same guys we all know as his regulars. One or two guys have been invited to the squad but generally he has this loyalty to some group of players since he took over as coach and that has killed competition for places in the team to an extent “, Oparaku told Sports&study.org.
” Most of the players know their spot in the national team is not under threat even if they don’t get to play for their club. I really understand his idea of trying to build a team but he should drop players who are not playing games at their clubs for new ones who are regulars”.
