Italian Serie B outfit Spezia are yet to grant the wish of Nigeria U23 invitee Uche Okereke to play both games for Nigeria against Libya in the Africa U23 Cup of Nations. Spezia view the 21 year old as a key player in their quest to gain promotion to the Serie A, hence their decision not to expressly grant him his wish despite receiving his invitation letter from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
With the Nigerian team set to play Libya on the 20th in Tunisia, the club will only let him leave after their game on the 16th against Benevento, which means he will likely arrive the camp of the Nigerian team on the 17th or 18th two days to the game and his arrival time might mean he won’t be able to train with the team before the game.
For the return leg In Nigeria, the club are not opposed to his participation due to the fact that they don’t have games in the Serie B, the weekend the game will be played.
Chased by Serie A champions Juventus, he will likely lead the attack of the Nigerian team alongside on loan Roma forward Sadiq Umar, who has two goals in his last two games and red hot on loan Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi who has so far scored in all but two games for his new side Mouscron.
