The hard-working attacker is confident that he will resume training on Tuesday, with a return to action at the weekend in mind
Wikki Tourists’ Abba Umar has given a positive update on his knee injury ahead of his team’s preparation for this weekend’s Nigeria Professional Football League tie with Sunshine Stars.
Umar was injured in the Giant Elephants 1-0 home win over Katsina United in a recent league tie, and there were fears that he may not make it for their away fixture to the Owena Whales in Akure. but the player disclosed that he hopes to resume training by Tuesday, and that he is likely to travel with the team if he responds well during this week’s practice sessions.
“I am getting very much better now and I am hoping to resume training on Monday or Tuesday after resting the injury all these while,” Umar told Sports&study.org.
“I was thinking that I won’t be able to make it for our away tie with Sunshine Stars because I thought it would be played on Wednesday before but with it coming by the weekend I should be ready for it. I hope there won’t be any relapse at all.
“I can stand well now and I can also run but I need to be fully fit again because I haven’t train now for over one week. I am very hopeful that I will be with the team for the game in Akure but if it is not possible, I won’t push it.”
Umar has scored six league goals for Wikki Tourists, which helped the Bauchi side to the fifth position on the NPFL Group A table with 22 points from 16 games.
