BID REJECTED: Watford are interested in Maxwel Cornet, according to reports
Watford have had a bid for Ivorian international Maxwel Cornet turned by down Lyon, according to reports in France.
The Hornets are in desperate need of reinforcements in attacking areas to give Marco Silva more options and have reportedly set their sights on Cornet.
The 20-year-old has scored 22 goals in 95 games for Lyon, but started just 19 Ligue 1 games for the French side last year.
However, Lyon sold star striker and last year’s top scorer Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal earlier this summer and believe Cornet can help fill the void left by the French international.
L’Equipe say that Watford had a bid of £10.5m rejected straight away by Lyon, who are not keen to part ways with the Ivory Coast international.
And on top of that Cornet is not thought to be enticed by the prospect of playing Premier League football, valuing the opportunity he will get in the Europa League at Lyon more.
