19 year old Villarreal forward Samuel Chukwueze could feature for Nigeria at the U20 World Youth Championship in Poland later this year.
Chukwueze’s inclusion in the team has sparked controversy with his team Villarreal who are adamant that he can only play in either the U20 World Youth Championship or the Africa Cup of Nations next summer.
The club are trying to prevent the player from suffering from a potential burn out as they are also due to start pre-season later this year and Chukwueze will also play for Nigeria U23 in June before teaming up with the U20s and later the Super Eagles.
It appears a compromise has been reached as his name was among the players submitted to FIFA in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the World Youth Championship in Poland, where Nigeria will be aiming to win the tournament for the first time.
Although he could yet not make the team but his inclusion in the list is based on his demand as his keen on playing for the team at the World Youth Championship after the failure of the U20 team of 2016 to progress to the tournament.
