Yet another contender emerges in improbable ‘race’ for Chelsea’s Loïc Rémy — report

offload not one but two first-team strikers this summer in Diego Costa and Loïc Rémy. While the former has his mind and heart set on Atlético Madrid, the latter has yet to find his new flavor. A return to France to play for Marseille or Lille is reportedly an option, as is a stay in the Premier League with Everton or Southampton. Now we can add a new name to that, this time from Italy.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Lazio are also interested in adding Rémy to their squad for next season. The Biancocelesti are looking for a new striker to be the backup to former Torino goal-machine Andre Belotti Ciro Immobile, who found his form again by scoring 26 goals in 41 appearances for Rome’s second club after bagging only 19 goals over the last three seasons for BVB, Sevilla (on loan), and Torino (on loan again), following his departure from Turin in summer 2014.

Lazio’s initial target was Iranian striker Sardar Azmoun, who played for Russian club Rostov last season but returned to Rubin Kazan this summer. (Ed. note: Ah, Reuben Boilers, we meet again!) Their attempts at getting the 22-year-old proved to be futile however, as the Tatáry refused €18 million. So now Lazio are moving on to targets like Rémy because it makes perfect sense to sign a washed-up and oft-injured 30-year-old instead of a promising 22-year-old, right?

But hey, if Lazio want to gift us a few million, who are we to judge them? We might even pay for Rémy’s flight back to Europe from China, where he’s currently with the traveling Chelsea sqaud
